CIOs on the Move: January 2025

In January 2025, many Chief Information Officers (CIOs) made career transitions, embracing new challenges and opportunities across industries. Their decision to pivot in the new year reflects a broader trend of adaptability and forward-thinking leadership, as they leverage their extensive experience to shape the future of technology in unexpected and impactful ways. Today, IT Executives Council will focus on 11 CIOs that have accepted new positions this month.

Boeing Names Dana Deasy as New CIO

Boeing announced it is appointing Dana Deasy, a top Pentagon official during the first Trump administration, as the company’s new chief information digital officer and senior vice president of information technology and data analytics. Deasy worked as the DoD’s top IT official from June 2018 until the end of the Trump administration, notably leading the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) cloud computing effort, as well as driving towards a “zero trust” cybersecurity model.

Greg Barbaccia is Named New Federal CIO

Greg Barbaccia has been appointed Federal chief information officer.  Barbaccia joins the Office of Management and Budget where he will be overseeing Federal technology spending, IT policy, and strategic planning for Federal IT investments. The Federal CIO is also responsible for providing information on the Federal Risk Management Program (FedRAMP), a program that standardizes cybersecurity practices for Federal agency use of cloud services.

Marcus & Millichap Names Evan Wayne as New CIO

Marcus & Millichap, a leading commercial real estate brokerage firm specializing in investment sales, financing, research and advisory services, announced the addition of Evan Wayne as chief information officer. Wayne will spearhead the execution of all technology initiatives and expand the company’s longstanding commitment to utilizing technology to service and support its clients, brokers, capital markets professionals, and corporate staff.

DXC Technology Names Brad Novak as New CIO

Brad Novak

DXC Technology, a global technology services provider, announced Brad Novak as its new Chief Information Officer. Novak, who has more than three decades of experience in the technology sector, will focus on integrating artificial intelligence into the company’s operations.

University of Arizona Names Elliott Cheu as New CIO

Elliott Cheu

University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella announced that Elliott Cheu, the school’s associate vice president for research centers and institutes, will soon serve as its new interim chief information officer. Cheu, a university distinguished professor of physics, splits his time between the university and the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, where he studies dark matter.

Oklahoma Names Dan Cronin as New CIO

Oklahoma appointed Dan Cronin, who most recently was the vice president of engineering for hotel chain Marriott International, to be its new CIO. In addition to his time with Marriott, Cronin has held senior tech leadership positions at Allstate Insurance Company and ZF Group, a German company that makes technology for the automotive industry. He has more than 20 years of experience in IT.

Purdue University of Christian Theumer as New CIO

Purdue University announced that Christian Theumer, who’d been serving as the university’s interim chief information officer and vice president for information technology. As CIO, Theumer is responsible for overseeing the university’s IT services, including cybersecurity, user experience, enterprise reporting, infrastructure services, academic IT services, and distributed campus services.

Nice Names Josh Jones as New CIO

Josh Jones

Home automation and building solutions provider, Nice North America, announced the promotion of Josh Jones to chief information officer. As CIO, Jones will lead the information technology and systems strategy for Nice North America, ensuring seamless integration and optimization across the company’s expansive portfolio of brands.

CireWeave Names Sandy Venugopal as New CIO

Sandy Venugopal

CoreWeave, the AI Hyperscaler™, announced the appointment of Sandy Venugo as its CIO. In this role, she will be responsible for leading the Company’s IT and Digital Transformation strategy.

MetLife Names Nick Nadgauda as New VP and CIO

Nick Nadgauda

MetLife announced that Nick Nadgauda has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. As Global CIO, Nadgauda will lead MetLife’s application development, infrastructure, enterprise platforms and architecture teams. His responsibilities include driving strategic vision and execution across the company’s technology portfolio. Nadgauda’s leadership will focus on enhancing MetLife’s market differentiation by leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve the customer journey at every touchpoint.

Shake Shack Names Justin Mennen as New CIO

Justin Mennen

Shake Shack appointed Justin Mennen as its chief information and technology officer. Mennen will oversee the chain’s information technology, including developing and implementing strategy, systems and processes that will aid operations and business objectives.
