Social Security Administration Names Marcela Escobar-Alava as New CIO
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has named Marcela Escobar-Alava as the agency’s new chief information officer, with a start date of March 4. Escobar-Alava has spent the past three years deeply involved in technology operations at the White House as both chief of enterprise applications since May 2023, and as deputy director of technology since 2021. The new SSA CIO also brings a wealth of private sector experience to government service, including stints as CIO at Monarch Landscape Companies, chief digital officer at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and divisional CIO at Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Wendy’s Names Matt Spessard as New CIO
Matt Spessard is the new CIO to The Wendy’s Company, succeeding Kevin Vasconi who has served as CIO since October 2020. As CIO, Spessard will assume responsibility for all aspects of Wendy’s global technology efforts, including Restaurant Technology, Data Management and Analytics, Enterprise Technology, Software Architecture and Engineering and Information Security.
Southwest Airlines Names Carrie Mills as New CISO
Southwest Airlines Co. announced that Carrie Mills has been promoted from Vice President Technology, Cybersecurity, to Vice President & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) effective March 16. As Vice President & CISO, Mills will be responsible for all aspects of cybersecurity across Southwest Airlines® facilities, airports, and aircraft, comprising security engineering, security operations, incident response, threat intelligence, risk and compliance, and vulnerability management.
New Haven, Coon. Names Michael Simeone as New CTO
New Haven, Conn., has looked to the legal industry to find its first-ever chief technology officer in Michael Simeone, the longtime CIO at one of the state’s largest law firms. Simeone comes to New Haven with IT leadership experience from the public sector, including time at companies that work in finance and legal services.
Procter & Gamble Names Seth Cohen as New CIO
Procter & Gamble CIO Vittorio Cretella will retire in July after five years with the packaged goods manufacturer. Seth Cohen, global CIO at PepsiCo, will join the company in April and take over the CIO position at P&G in June.
Montclair State University Names David Chun as New CIO
Montclair State University in New Jersey announced it’s appointed a new chief information officer, who has decades of experience working with information technology in higher education and the private sector. David Chun will officially begin his new position at Montclair State University on May 1, university leaders said. He most recently served as CIO and associate vice president at Sonoma State University in California.
Couchbase Names Julie Irish as New CIO
Couchbase, Inc., the cloud database platform company, announced the expansion of its executive leadership team with the appointment of Julie Irish as senior vice president and chief information officer. In this role, Irish will drive Couchbase’s global IT strategy in alignment with the company’s key business objectives.
Basware Names Barrett Schiwitz as New CIO
Finnish fintech innovator, Basware, announces the hiring of Barrett Schiwitz as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO). Schiwitz will oversee the management of information systems, leveraging his thirty-year career at Snap One. The goal is to lead a system makeover across departments with a keen eye towards improving customer engagement.
Generac Names Talal Butt as New CIO
Generac Power Systems, a prominent energy technology company, has appointed Talal Butt as its new Chief Information Officer. Butt’s role will involve leading the company’s global information technology strategy, focusing on areas such as digital commerce, data and artificial intelligence, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and global applications.
LastPass Names Asad Siddiqui as New CIO
LastPass, a leader in password and identity management solutions, today named Asad Siddiqui chief information officer. Under his leadership, Siddiqui’s teams will provide direction for the creation and execution of the IT vision, strategy, and operating plans in support of the company’s business strategy. Specifically, Siddiqui will develop and execute a technology strategy that drives continued transformation, innovation, security, and trust to advance LastPass’ vision.
American Savings Bank Names Brad Mattocks as New CIO
American Savings Bank has named Brad Mattocks as its new executive vice president and chief information officer. In this role, Mattocks will oversee technology banking systems, infrastructure, data, and IT development.
